A
pivotal concept of the Family Literacy model seeks to show parents
how to be the primary teachers for their children, and full partners
in their children's education. For more information about parenting

Smart
from the Start 
The Tennessee Department of Education wants to help each parent become
his or her child's first and most important teacher. Includes downloadable
information about child development and ideas for teaching opportunities
for children from birth to age five.
Tennessee Families First 
Families First is Tennessee's welfare reform plan which replaced the
Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) program. The temporary
cash assistance program emphasizes work, training, and personal responsibility.
Many families who participate in this program can and do benefit from
family literacy programs as well.
Nat'l Coalition
for Parent Involvement in Education
The NCPIE site features an online publication, Supporting
Parents as Leaders, which includes inspiring success stories
about parents as teachers and partners in education.

to Three
Extensive resources for both parents and early childhood educators,
featuring the Magic of Everyday Moments program.
